New York Then and Now (Then & Now Thunder Bay)

New York Then and Now (Then & Now Thunder Bay) Review

Since New Amsterdam became New York in 1664, constant change and development has been its driving force. Today, it is America's densest urban environment and most vital city, boasting one of the most recognizable skylines in the world.
- New York Then and Now places today's post 9/11 cityscape within the context of history, reflecting the changing and enduring aspects of life in the Big Apple.
- Remarkable past-and-present photographs showcase Manhattan's development and the amazing architecture that defines the city. See side-by-side images of the lavish Waldorf-Astoria, Radio City Music Hall, Union Square, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Penn Station, Empire State Building, and the Chrysler Building.
- The Twin Towers, part of the World Trade Center, redefined the Manhattan skyline when they opened in 1976. After the tragedies of 9/11, the skyline is defined as much by their absence.
- New York continues to be one of the most popular destinations in the world—everyone who has experienced the energy and magic of the Big Apple will want New York Then and Now. It's the perfect souvenir or gift!

Phoenix Then and Now (Compact) (Then & Now Thunder Bay)

Phoenix Then and Now (Compact) (Then & Now Thunder Bay) Review

From the moment it became Arizona’s capital in 1912, Phoenix has enjoyed steady population growth and commercial expansion. Today, Phoenix still continues to expand, due to mass migration, and it has the distinction of being one of the fastest-growing areas in the country. Phoenix Then and Now looks at the development of the city, with historical photographs placed side-by-side with contemporary views of the same locations that reveal a vibrant city, benefiting from wave upon wave of Easterners seeking sunshine in a culturally rich, urban setting. Amazing pictorial history of Phoenix, and the surrounding areas, filled with archival photographs of key locations paired with specially commissioned photographs of the same scenes as they are today. See the Heard Building, used for the opening shot of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. One of Phoenix’s first sky scrapers, the building is now used for stores and offices. Featured landmarks include the San Carlos Hotel, the Monahan Building, and the Orpheum Theatre.

The 2009 Economic and Product Market Databook for Thunder Bay, Canada

The 2009 Economic and Product Market Databook for Thunder Bay, Canada Review

In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have occasionally been asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services in Canada. The purpose of this study is to understand the density of demand within Canada and the extent to which Thunder Bay might be used as a point of distribution within North America & the Caribbean. From an economic perspective, however, Thunder Bay does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries, rather, it represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another.

In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for Thunder Bay over the next five years for hundreds of industries, categories and products. The goal of this report is to report the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by Thunder Bay when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales. For many items, latent demand is clearly observable in sales, as in the case for food or housing items. Consider, however, the category "satellite launch vehicles". Clearly, there are no launch pads in Thunder Bay used by the space industry to launch satellites. However, the core benefit of the vehicles (e.g. telecommunications, etc.) is "consumed" by the area served by Thunder Bay. Without Thunder Bay, in other words, the market for satellite launch vehicles would be lower for the population in Canada, North America & the Caribbean, or the world in general. One needs to allocate, therefore, a portion of the worldwide economic demand for launch vehicles to both North America & the Caribbean and Thunder Bay. Read more...

Orlando Then and Now (Then & Now Thunder Bay)

Orlando Then and Now (Then & Now Thunder Bay) Review

There’s more to Orlando than mouse ears. Long before Walt Disney arrived, Seminole Indians lived here, in the swamplands of central Florida. Over the years, Orlando evolved into a modern city, but it wasn’t until 1971 that it began its transformation into what it is today: one of the biggest tourist destinations in the world.
  • See how Orlando grew from humble swampland into a modern mecca of theme parks, big business, and retail in this new edition of the Then and Now series.
  • Witness the amazing transformation of thousands of acres of orange groves as they became Disney World, Epcot Center, SeaWorld, and Universal Studios.
  • Take a glimpse into Orlando’s dynamic past as you tour its historic downtown district. See then-and-now images of the Old Orlando Railroad depot, the Bumby Hardware Building and Slemon’s Department Store.
  • With Art Deco treasures, magnificent Beaux Arts and Queen Anne buildings, and red-tiled Mediterranean roofs, Orlando boasts an incredible range of architectural styles. See some of the city’s best-loved old buildings, as they were and as they are today.
  • Orlando hosts millions of visitors every year. This exciting Then and Now book makes a great souvenir or gift.
